Eat Pray and Love

I started reading eat, pray & love while on vacation. I know, a little late to the game since everyone has been telling me how good this book is for over a year. It is really better than good. I find myself making notes in the margins to remind myself of how to deal with things that aren't working out in your life. Elizabeth Gilbert has such an easy tone, that you almost feel like you are reading her diary... which is the way she intended. Such a great journey to read about a women that had a so called "perfect" life and threw it all away because she knew there was something more out there for her. All of her flaws are easy to relate to. I recommend any 30 year old or even 2o something read this, to understand what it is like when life trips you up and the opportunities that present themselves to you when you follow your heart (I say this in the least cheesy way possible).

"I have a history of making decisions very quickly about men. I have always fallen in love fast and without measuring risks. I have a tendency not only to see the best in everyone, but to assume that everyone is emotionally capable of reaching his highest potential. I have fallen in love more times than I care to count with the highest potential of a man, rather than with the man himself, and I have hung on to the relationship for a long time (sometimes far too long) waiting for the man to ascend to his own greatness. Many times in romance I have been a victim of my own optimism." — Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia)

Twilight

Twilight is by far one of my favorite stores in Boston. I always try and pop in while I am in the North End... They offer cute cocktail dresses or girls night out attire... If you can catch sales early, you can find some really good deals.

The shop is located next to Prezza in the North End on Fleet Street. This Thursday night, JoJo and Twilight are having a promotional sale. Everyone should try and stop by.

Time 5-8. Email me if you want the invite from JoJo.

Leokadia

Leokadia is having a huge final clearance sale at their store. Everyone should check it out asap, since early shopping means getting the best deal on a new pair of shoes. Please check out link, if you are not familiar with the store.

Wine Expo... In search of foil

Wine Expo was a blast with the girls. I highly recommend everyone going next year. By the end of the day, there were a lot of drunk people elbowing for the last of wine. Believe me, not a lot of people needed more.

Things to note:

Men, unlike women, can't handle drinking wine all day (we saw someone being escorted out of the building by his wife; the other by security).

It is smart to wear black when drinking red.

Always, always hit up the Ireland table for beads... oh and remember where the Ireland table is since you are going to be asked about your beads all day.

There is a lot of foil in France.

New Zealand doesn't have the best wine.

There is no need to drink a full glass of port... ever.

There is always a photo both or man with a camera, if you look hard enough.

BHTM

Yea! I just got a event list from Live Nation and I see that BHTM is scheduled for April 11th at 7pm at the new House of Blues. Tickets go on sale 1/24 at 10am. I am so excited to see a show at this new venue! Click the BHTM link above to be taken to the live nation website for more info.

Mini Bar

I just read that a new bar opened up at 5 Huntington Ave, called Mini Bar. I think this may be a new good after work spot for some drinks...

MKT

I went to MKT last night, the old Aqua... and I am not a fan - at all. It looks unfinished, like you were drinking in a basement. They took out the old long bar and put a circular one somewhere down at the end of the space. A small circular one... which led to so much awkward space on the other side. Maybe it was for dancing, but who knows. Not good. Don't recommend it.

Saturday

I need to come up with something different to do to my hair, so I have been going through magazines trying to find something new. The problem is, all the haircuts I am drawn to are shorter cuts and I am really trying to grow it out or brown in color - which I know Heidi will not do. Yes, major important stuff... not much going on - so this is what I am working on.

Headed to the gym shortly: Going to work-out and get a massage, finally. I haven't had a massage at Equinox before, so I hope it is really good!

Miami

Last week I had a nice little vacation from the cold and went to South Beach for a few days. Nothing major to report, but it was a great time. I just spent time with CD and did a lot of beaching and pooling it. We also ventured into some local favorites for drinks and dinner. Delano, of course, but it was super quiet. You know it is quiet when you can walk into the Delano and actually get the bartenders undivided attention and are able to get a seat the bar and have a mojito in hand in less than 2 minutes. We stayed at the Sagamore, which was nice. They have an awesome hot salt water pool. The down side, it was refreshing after basking (and drinking) in the hot weather. I liked it though and would stay there again. My new favorite hotel is the National.... the property is beautiful and the service was way better than the Sagamore. One of the fun places we went for happy hour is Mangos. It is such a fun apres beach spot... loud music along with the dancing girls on the bar. Surprisingly, I didn't dance... which again confirms that this was a real quiet get away. So great vacation overall... got a little tan, read a book and had lots of laughs.

Sensa

This was featured in Daily Candy this morning. I may try it. Should I be concerned it isn't FDA approved? 30 lbs in 6 months.

Greg Behrendt

I need to get tickets for Greg. He is playing at the Wilbur on the 2/13 at 7pm. This is a great idea for a girls night out, so everyone should try and get tickets. If you are not aware of who he is, you will recognize his books: He's Just Not That Into You and It's Called a Break Up Cause it is Broken.

Wine Festival

Last night I attended the kick-off party for the Wine Festival at the BHH with Chris, Nora, Hui, Paul and Lisa. There were so many great wines offered, but I was very fond of the Calera Pinot Noir. The food that Chef Bruce provided was truly awesome. Normally, there is just passed apps, but this event had long tables set through the room with so many different foods to try. I particularly enjoyed the tiny fried scallops, while the other girls loved the pate.

There were a lot of laughs and a lot of cameras, which meant that us girls were very entertained...especially after a few glass of wine. I am really looking forward to the Wine expo on the 24th now with Nora and Laura.

Look for pictures in Boston Magazine and the Improper.

DogTown

I am watching DogTown on National Geographic this afternoon and am just shocked and saddened by what Michael Vick did to those pit bulls. I feel so bad that any animal would ever be abused so badly. The people and trainers that rehabilitated instead of euthanizing them should be so proud of themselves. Truly special people. It makes me want to adopt one (Denzyl)... some of them are just so sweet. All I can say is wow and I hope the dogs get happy homes now.
